About me

My name is Jane and I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1993 from Leeds University. I have specialised in musculoskeletal medicine since 1995.
I have a Masters Degree in Sports Physiotherapy and worked with in elite sport for 6 years, attending 4 World Championships during that time.
I previously worked in the NHS for many years, and was the team leader of a musculoskeletal out-patient physiotherapy department in Oxford for 15 years.
I started ‘Clever Movement Physiotherapy and Pilates’ in 2014.

l absolutely love being outdoors in the countryside, be that on land or in the water.
I will willingly give any outdoor recreational activity a go: I’ve tried kayaking, coasteering, rock climbing and paddle boarding, to name but a few.
However, walking is definitely my go-to regular activity for exercise and relaxation.

In another life I would have liked to have been a dancer, of either classical or contemporary ballet. But sadly this dream ended at age 7, as despite loving it I was a shy and self-conscious child. Today I enjoy watching all forms of dance, with my favourite choreographer being Mathew Bourne for his interpretation of Swan Lake and Romeo & Juliet with the Adventures in Motion dance company.

I have learnt many valuable lessons from patients suffering with pain and long term illness, who have shown me that being mindful is vital when moving and exercising. Staying focused on the present moment with each hand and foot placement was certainly helpful during my first, and only, attempt at climbing in the Peak District.

I have also learnt from the many athletes I have treated that being determined, and having a degree of persistence, helps you to keep going in the direction you want. With this in mind I aim to offer support & encouragement, to help people keep motivated despite the ups and downs of life.

A client, who initially had to spend most of the class lying down over pillows due to low back pain, was eventually able to join me and compete in her first sprint triathlon. This was a really rewarding experience for her and I felt truly blessed to have played a part in her achievement.

I have an interest in the psychology of Buddhism and have studied the Brahma Viharas, which looks at the cultivation of kindness, joy, compassion and equanimity as a pathway of living and caring for the well-being of all.
In life there is much suffering and my hope is that ‘Clever Movement’ will help empower people physically to live the life they want to lead.
